Loro Piana Fabrics
An Enzo Custom suit in Loro Piana cloth combines your chosen fabric with an individual pattern and fittings. Explore the available weaves, colors and weights, then choose the drape and construction suited to your wardrobe.
A textile house shaped by exceptional fibers
Loro Piana was founded in Quarona, Piedmont, in 1924, following the family’s earlier history in the wool trade. Its reputation grew through fine wool and cashmere textiles. Today, the house brings together knowledge of raw materials, textile craft and modern production technology, with close attention to the main stages that turn a natural fiber into finished cloth.
That work starts well before weaving. Loro Piana sources extra-fine Merino from Australia and New Zealand and cashmere from Mongolia and northern China. The choice of fiber is the beginning; yarn construction, weaving and finishing determine how that material becomes cloth with a particular surface, weight and drape.
What gives the cloth its character
Cashmere illustrates the care behind the material. It comes from the fine underfleece of the cashmere goat, distinct from the coarser outer coat. Loro Piana’s work with the fiber begins with sourcing and initial processing before it is developed further in Italy. That depth of material knowledge sits alongside the house’s work in fine wool and other natural fibers.
In tailoring, refinement is something to assess in the actual sample. Notice how the cloth settles when draped, how the surface responds to light and how it feels against the hand. Compare a smooth worsted with a cloth that has more texture or body. The choice should reflect the way you will wear the garment and the silhouette you want.
Tasmanian is one of Loro Piana’s established wool references. The house’s Grisaglia Tasmanian suiting, for example, uses virgin wool and is presented as balancing refinement with durability. That is a description of a particular cloth, not a promise that every Loro Piana fabric will behave identically. Your clothier helps you compare the available qualities and decide which belongs in your wardrobe.
Tasmanian and Zelander cloth references
Loro Piana’s fabric names describe distinct approaches to material. Tasmanian, Zelander and other selections should be explored through their particular weave, finish and composition. A smooth dark business cloth, a patterned wool and a textured evening fabric can serve different wardrobes.
Two examples from Loro Piana’s own published garments show why the details matter. The brand uses Tasmanian wool in both pinstriped suiting and birdseye suiting. A stripe supplies a clear linear pattern; birdseye gives a smaller repeating texture that is read differently at a distance. The collection name alone does not choose that visual effect for you.
Loro Piana also identifies Zelander High Tenacity wool in its business and evening suiting. Compare its handle and drape with the other cloths suited to your plans. These are examples of the supplier’s fabric programs; your clothier confirms the specific Enzo selection available for your order.
Choose by how you will wear it
Begin with the calendar. For a working suit, explain how often you dress formally and how many garments share that work. For a wedding or evening order, show the venue and describe the light, season and dress code. Those details narrow the choice more effectively than requesting the most expensive cloth.
| Your brief | Useful comparison at the appointment |
|---|---|
| A quiet business suit | A plain cloth beside a subtle birdseye or restrained stripe |
| An occasional formal suit | Surface, depth of color and drape under evening light |
| A jacket worn separately | Texture and contrast against the intended trousers |
| A softer garment | The actual handle, weight and composition |
| A fabric remembered from an earlier collection | The exact name or sample reference, followed by an availability check |
Look at a generous area of cloth rather than judging only the smallest corner of a swatch. Lay it beside your preferred shirt. A blue that looks dark on its own can read quite differently against white or cream.
Develop the pattern around the material
Enzo develops and makes your garment using the selected Loro Piana fabric. The individual pattern, construction and fittings are carried out for your order.
Your pattern reflects measurements, posture, shoulder slope and proportions. The intended lapel, chest shape and trouser line are assessed alongside the way the cloth falls. Our process and construction guide explain these decisions beyond the fabric name.
A Super number, where applicable, tells you about wool-fiber fineness. It does not establish the weight or wearing season. Compare the complete specification and the sample in your hand before choosing.
Confirm the fabric, price and timing
Loro Piana sits within our wider cloth collection, alongside Zegna, Dormeuil and other sources. A small, purposeful comparison helps identify the texture and drape you prefer without turning the appointment into an endless sequence of books.
For custom suiting, the selected material, design, final price and timing are confirmed before production. Bring the date of any event and allow for the availability of the exact cloth. Seasonal and rare selections may need additional planning.
