Inside Our Jackets

At Enzo Custom, a jacket is defined by its internal architecture.

Every garment is built around a true full floating canvas—the structural spine of the jacket—running uninterrupted from shoulder to chest, through the lapel, and down to the hem. The canvas is never glued to the outer cloth. It is shaped, tensioned, and refined by hand to create natural chest drape, a controlled lapel roll, and a form that evolves with its wearer over time.

Before assembly, the canvas is shrunk and sculpted using steam and iron work, then allowed to rest and settle before being refined again. This multi-stage process—shaping, resting, and re-shaping—locks in structure that cannot be rushed or replicated by shortcuts, ensuring long-term balance, stability, and durability.

Horsehair, Wool, & Cotton

We use a best-in-class horsehair blend composed of horsehair, wool, and cotton, selected for spring memory, breathability, and controlled flexibility.

Horsehair provides resilience and shape retention, wool introduces softness and thermal regulation, and cotton stabilizes the structure without rigidity.

No synthetic materials are used within the canvassing, preserving breathability, longevity, and traditional tailoring integrity.

Canvas Density and Composition Are

matched precisely to the cloth selected. Heavier fabrics require a different internal architecture than lighter ones; structure is calibrated to support the cloth rather than overpower it.

Density is graduated intentionally—firmer through the chest for shape, moderated through the waist for comfort, and lighter through the skirt for fluid movement.

Jacket canvas construction detail

Dedicated Cotton Horsehair Canvas and Traditional Pad Stitching

Beyond the primary canvas, each jacket incorporates a layered internal architecture with independent shaping zones, including a secondary shaping canvas and reinforced chest structure engineered to stabilize the neckline, control movement, and preserve balance over time. Each layer is shaped independently and adjusted to the wearer's posture, ensuring harmony between structure and comfort.

The shoulder is constructed using a dedicated cotton horsehair canvas, shaped separately to support posture, preserve a clean shoulder line, and prevent collapse as the garment ages. Because every jacket is made to order, shoulder slope, asymmetry, and natural posture are fully accounted for—whether one shoulder sits lower than the other, or the body carries weight differently side to side.

Arm pitch and balance are calibrated accordingly, allowing the jacket to hang cleanly, move naturally, and remain composed in motion.

Lapel construction is executed using traditional pad stitching, reinforced with bridal tape and under-collar felt to maintain roll, memory, and balance throughout the life of the garment.

Sleeves are supported with dedicated sleeve-head structure, easing the transition from shoulder to arm while preserving drape and freedom of movement.

Even internal elements such as the chest pocket are reinforced to maintain shape, alignment, and longevity.

Collars and vents are finished by hand, sleeves are eased and set by hand, and the garment is refined through dozens of individual pressings from cut to completion.

We source our interlinings from Kufner, renowned for German engineering precision and long-term shape integrity. This process is slow. It is exacting. And it is precisely why an Enzo Custom jacket does not simply fit—it settles, improves, and endures.
