Selected Cloth: Fabric from the Mills of Italy, England, and France

Enzo Custom sources fabric from mills across Italy, England, and France — including Loro Piana, Zegna, Dormeuil, Scabal, and Vitale Barberis Canonico — selected by behavior in wear, not by name.

Cloth determines how a garment moves, holds, and endures. Its behavior—how it drapes, how it recovers, how it responds to movement—is established at the fiber and weave level long before construction begins.

Enzo Custom sources cloth from a narrow selection of mills across Italy, England, and France—chosen for consistency, refinement, and performance in wear.

Italian, English, and French Cloth

Each region carries a distinct character shaped by climate, tradition, and method.

Italian cloth is defined by fluidity. Woven primarily in Biella, it favors softness, lighter finishing, and a natural drape that moves easily with the body.

English cloth, produced in regions such as Huddersfield, is built for structure. It is denser, more resilient, and maintains its line through repeated wear.

French cloth, often developed through houses like Dormeuil, balances the two—refined in finish, controlled in hand, and designed to perform across both formal and daily use.

Selection begins with how the garment will be worn, not where the cloth was woven.

The Mills

Fluidity, softness, rare fibers

Loro Piana stands as the global benchmark for luxury cloth, defined by direct control over the world’s rarest raw materials and an uncompromising commitment to refinement. Revered for sourcing exceptional fibers and transforming them with restraint, its fabrics are selected by the most exacting tailoring houses. More than thirty percent of Enzo Custom garments are crafted using Loro Piana cloth—a reflection of its consistency, integrity, and enduring authority. Its collections span from highly wearable Super 130s to ultra-refined Super 200s, balancing softness, fluidity, and performance across a wide range of applications.

Selection is not based on name. It is based on behavior.

Texture and Drape

The surface of a fabric is its first signal.

A tightly woven worsted wool presents a clean, controlled finish...

The decision is not stylistic. It defines how the garment carries itself.

Fibers

Cloth performance is determined by fiber as much as by weave.

Enzo Custom works across Super 100s through Super 180s...

For daily wear, Super 120s through 150s balance refinement with durability.

Fiber is selected to match intended use—not reputation.

Weight and Season

Cloth weight is measured in grams, but its effect is felt.

Lightweight cloths (220–270g)...

Mid-weight cloths (280–320g)...

Heavier cloths (340g and above)...

Cloth Determines Construction

Construction does not exist independently of cloth.

A heavier fabric requires greater internal support to maintain line.

In production tailoring, fabric adapts to structure.

In custom tailoring, structure adapts to fabric.

Cloth and Cost

Fabric is the primary variable in determining the cost of a garment.

Differences in fiber quality... influence both performance and price.

Cost reflects material and execution—not branding or categorization.

Italian cloth emphasizes softness and fluidity, English cloth favors structure and durability, and French cloth blends refinement with control.

What does Super 120s, 150s, or 180s mean?

Super numbers refer to the fineness of the yarn. Super 120s through 150s are the most versatile for daily wear. Super 170s and higher offer exceptional softness and are best suited to occasion garments.
