Custom Jackets and Sport Coats

A sport coat is often worn across more combinations than a suit jacket. Begin with the trousers, shirts and knitwear you expect to wear beneath it. A little texture can create a useful distinction from smooth trousers; a subtle check can introduce color without dominating the outfit.

For a first separate jacket, versatility comes from the relationships between garments. Navy is useful, but not every navy cloth makes a convincing blazer or sport coat. Surface and drape deserve as much attention as color. Our guide to jackets, blazers and sport coats explains the differences.

A natural shoulder can produce a softer outline. More structured treatments provide a defined line. Neither is a universal measure of quality, and padding cannot substitute for an appropriate shoulder shape and slope.

Full canvas is standard in our structured jackets, with half canvas and unconstructed designs available. Lining is a separate decision: full, partial and unlined treatments provide different interior coverage. An unlined jacket can still have canvas.

We coordinate lapels, button stance, jacket length and the opening of the front. Natural oxhorn and mother-of-pearl button choices are available at no additional charge. Complimentary monogramming and personal name labels complete the garment, with initials, dates and additional placements discussed with your clothier.

Look at the jacket with your arms resting naturally, then sit and reach normally. Bring the shirt or knitwear you will usually wear so the sleeve, chest and upper back are assessed over the correct layer. Jacket cloth should support that intended use.
