A new suit should have a clear role. That may be regular office wear, important meetings or a series of family occasions. Start with the colors and fabrics you already reach for, then decide whether another suit or a separate jacket would add more useful combinations.

For custom suits, compare the formality of a smooth worsted with a visible weave or pattern. For separate jackets, think about the trousers and shirts alongside them. A jacket chosen independently can be difficult to wear if its color, texture or length does not relate to anything else you own. Tom can assess those relationships with the garments on you. A trouser’s rise affects the visible length of a jacket; a shirt collar changes how the neck and lapels appear together. These details are easier to settle together.

New-client measurements take place in the showroom. We record more than 30 measurements and assess posture, shoulder slope, asymmetry and arm pitch. An individual pattern is drafted from scratch for you and the garment category, including the balance and ease that suit the way you stand and move.

We fit the constructed garment and refine it, usually through two to three fittings. Bring the intended shoes and layers so sleeve length, trouser break and room through the body can be assessed in context. Confirmed changes are recorded for later orders, with existing measurements reviewed when your needs or body change. Our process explains how the stages fit together.

Full floating canvas is the standard for our structured jackets. The internal layer supports the chest, lapels and shape, allowing the outer cloth to drape. We do not use fused jacket-front construction.

For a different feel, half canvas is available where appropriate or requested, and unconstructed jackets offer a softer alternative. Lining is a separate choice: a jacket can have reduced lining while retaining internal structure. Discuss the feel you prefer alongside the shoulder, pocket and closure decisions. The range is a starting point; Tom helps narrow it by garment, intended use and the conditions in which you will wear it. Availability is confirmed for your selected cloth.

A smooth wool can suit a business wardrobe, while flannel or a more textured weave gives a separate jacket a different character. For warmer weather, examine openness and breathability as well as weight. For cold weather, think about the layers around the garment rather than selecting cloth by the season’s name alone. Custom trousers can be shaped for your preferred rise, leg line and break, with a hand-set curtain waistband and V-split detail. Bring a pair whose feel you like, then explain what you would change. Custom shirts allow the collar, cuffs and sleeve proportions to work with your jackets; mother-of-pearl buttons are standard.

An overcoat needs to be fitted over the clothing beneath it. Bring your suit jacket or substantial knitwear so we can assess the shoulders, upper arms and closure together. Length should reflect how you use the coat, including walking, sitting and the coverage you prefer. Tell our concierge team when booking if you want to discuss a suit and overcoat in the same visit.

Start with the dress code, setting and date. A wedding suit and a tuxedo answer different levels of formality, so settle that before choosing a lapel or accessory. These are starting prices, with your selected cloth, design and final price confirmed before production.

Standard timing is three to four calendar weeks from a confirmed, paid order until ready for pickup or shipment. Imported or special cloth may take longer. Allow for fittings and any refinement around your event or departure date.
