An overcoat and a suit perform different jobs. If much of your day is indoors, choose the suit for those conditions and use the coat for coverage outside. Selecting the heaviest cloth for both can leave you with a combination you rarely want to wear. Describe the full working day, including your commute, office and travel, before deciding on cloth.

For a business suit, begin with how frequently you wear tailoring. A smooth worsted can give a clear, formal line; a cloth with a softer surface changes the appearance and feel of the outfit. Navy, charcoal, a subtle pattern and a more visible texture each have a place, depending on the clothes you already own. The suit guide explains how these decisions connect.

An overcoat receives its own individual pattern. Bring the jacket and any other layers you expect to wear beneath it. Mason checks room through the shoulders, upper back and sleeves, along with coat length and the way the front closes. Enzo offers 10,000 fabrics across its collections, including selections from Loro Piana, Zegna, Holland & Sherry, Scabal, Dormeuil and Enzo Sartori. Mason can begin with the category and wearing conditions, then narrow the options by weight, weave, texture and color.

A soft cloth is appealing to handle, but it still needs to suit the garment. Compare how cloth falls, the definition it gives a trouser line and how formal its surface appears. A higher Super number describes finer wool; it does not establish the most useful cloth for your working week. For a separate jacket, consider how its texture sits alongside your trousers. Full floating canvas is the standard for our structured jackets. It supports the chest, lapels and shape through an internal foundation, allowing the outer cloth to drape naturally. We do not use fused jacket-front construction. Half canvas is available where appropriate or requested, and an unconstructed jacket offers a softer alternative.

A jacket’s lining is a separate choice. Full, partial or no lining can be discussed alongside the canvas and shoulder design; an unlined jacket is not automatically unconstructed. New clients are measured in the showroom. Over 30 measurements are assessed together with posture, shoulder slope, asymmetry and arm pitch. Jacket balance, button stance, trouser seat and preferred ease matter because a garment must work on the person wearing it. An individual pattern is drafted from scratch for you and the garment category.

We fit the constructed garment, usually through two to three fittings, and carry confirmed refinements into your fit record. Bring the relevant shoes and shirt, stand naturally and move as you ordinarily would. Collar contact, sleeve position and trouser length should be judged in the complete outfit. A wedding or black-tie evening deserves its own conversation. Bring the invitation and any existing formal pieces. A tuxedo needs agreement between the jacket, trousers and shirt, including trouser rise and the visible shirt front. For a wedding suit, consider the dress code, setting and whether you would like to wear the suit afterward. If other members of the party are ordering, distinguish matching cloth from coordinated colors and discuss their locations at the beginning. Our wedding guide helps organize those choices.

Give Mason both the event date and any departure date. The fitting plan needs to work before you leave Chicago, including time to assess the complete outfit.

The pieces between full-suit occasions deserve the same attention to proportion. A separate jacket should relate to the trousers beneath it, so bring an existing pair if you plan to keep wearing them. Cloth texture and shoulder shape help establish how formal or relaxed the combination appears.

Custom shirts let you choose a collar that works under the jacket and cuffs suited to how you wear them. Mother-of-pearl buttons are standard, and a split yoke is available. Trousers feature a hand-set curtain waistband and V-split detail, with rise, seat and leg shape assessed together. Every garment carries a name label.

Your chosen cloth and design establish the final price, confirmed before production. Standard timing is three to four calendar weeks from a confirmed, paid order until the garment is ready for pickup or shipment. Imported or special cloth may take longer. Rush timing is approximately 18 calendar days, around two and a half weeks, only when confirmed for your order. Fittings and final adjustments are planned against the date you need to wear the garment.

We stand behind every garment we make. If something isn’t right, your clothier will work with you to refine it through alterations. In the rare case that alterations aren’t enough, we’ll remake the garment. If you’re still not satisfied after we’ve worked to resolve your concerns, we’ll refund the affected garment.

Every custom garment we make is covered by our Fit Guarantee, with complimentary fit alterations for 60 calendar days after final pickup. The period begins when you collect the completed garment after its final fitting. Later alterations do not restart or extend the original 60-day period.
